WALK: River Bure, Wroxham, Norfolk | Follow a tranquil autumn river through quiet Norfolk villages to Wroxham, the ‘capital of the Broads’, before returning along the Bure Valley Railway. Anna Paxton leads the way

- Anna Paxton

BURE THROUGH THE BROADS

Weeping willow trees, anglers and kingfishers share the River Bure’s waterside path as it village-hops its way through rural Norfolk.

From Wroxham, a busy boating hub and the halfway point of this walk, navigation is easy as the footpath follows the Bure Valley Railway back through golden woodland and ploughed fields to the start.

1 BRIDGING THE BURE

From the Bure Valley Railway car park at Buxton, cross the railway track and turn right along a footpath that runs parallel to the tracks. Just before a footbridge, which crosses the river, turn left down some steps, then right and follow the riverside path over a wooden bridge. Turn left to walk along a grassy path with the river on your left. Follow the path through fields to a road.

2 RIVERSIDE RAMBLE

Turn left at the road and cross Mayton Bridge. Immediately turn right through a small car park to continue on the riverside path, which eventually leads to a road in Coltishall.
