Housed in the very same development, these neighbouring apartments show how the same starting point can lead to two distinct and highly-liveable homes

One Space Two Looks

In the world of interiors, it is often said that homes are physical manifestations of their owners’ needs and tastes. And this statement holds true for the residents of Eastville Apartments, a walk-up residence in Joo Chiat with a history that dates back to the 1960s.

Each of the development’s 16 homes is just as unique as their occupants who count expatriates and young local families among their number.

Diverse backgrounds aside, the entire community is very much united by a congenial kampong spirit that has been present “prior to the current batch of occupants”, according to Simon Wong, the incumbent chairman of Eastville Apartments.

“I don’t know if it is the proximity or the small number of units, but it did not take long for us to start knowing each other,” says the UK-born Singapore permanent resident. “And like the previous owners, we’ll even have impromptu excursions. Someone will ask, ‘Who’s free for some durians?’, and we would all head out in a mini convoy!”

Here’s a closer look at two homes in Eastville Apartments as we examine how they are different yet similar – just like their owners.

Peace and tranquillity reign supreme in this ground floor unit decked out in luminous neutrals and cosy wood tones.
