How to choose a sports bra…
Working out in an ill-fitting sports bra can stretch your breast ligaments, leading to sagging and, possibly, chest pain. Here are some general rules to bear in mind when you’re shopping for one.
BUYER’S GUIDE
Generally, a sports bra should compress your breasts slightly, allowing you to move, jump and run without the girls er, bobbing.
• FABRIC Fabrics should be breathable and sweatwicking. Most sports bras are made from synthetics like polyester mesh or Lycra. Synthetics are best for wicking away sweat. Cotton tends to absorb and retain moisture. Mesh provides breathability and ventilation.
• ADEQUATE SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL: If you enjoy high-impact activities, you’ll need a sports bra with enough structure to minimise bounce. For lower-impact activities like yoga, you might prefer a bra with more stretch.
• ADJUSTABLE STRAPS can help customise a bra’s support and comfort, while adjustable closures can loosen or tighten the chest band, especially as the bra ages and loses elasticity over time.
