The rapidly-growing Airbnb chain opens its first Indian office in Gurugram. Environments and Space Matrix conceptualise a blend of local culture and Airbnb’s broader global heritage.

Communal Togetherness for Proficiency

This indigenous and transnational balance is evident through the diverse nuances and symbolic naming with primarily Indian locations. Opened in May 2018, Airbnb India, and the space-sharing Airseva Call Center which services the global Airbnb community, are designed by Airbnb’s Environments and architecture studio Space Matrix.

The obvious tea point ‘Chai Bar’, is a prominent homegrown example. The sole project room is named ‘Brannan’ paying homage to the HQ in San Francisco, and the broader Airbnb family.

The open office layout in Gurugram has only one partition that partially divides desk zones allowing the team to continue to maintain an intimate culture as they grow.
