Interior designer Kathryn M Ireland did not hesitate for a moment when she first viewed the property that was so soon to become her family home. Seduced by its privacy, the new build, a few blocks from Venice Beach in Los Angeles, offered all the features she had been looking for. Here, she tells us more about it.

Why did you choose a new-build home? I loved having a blank canvas to work with. Typically, I fall for older houses or Spanish styles, but I have really enjoyed putting some age and soul into this place; it was fun to warm it up. The developer had done such a great job that all I had to do was hang curtains and move my stuff in. As I spend so much of my time doing up other people’s homes, this was a great relief.
