New York-based rising star Corey Damen Jenkins is a mould-breaker who creates joyous interiors

- KATE BURNETT

Meet the designer

NOW that New York City has reopened for business, interior designer Corey Damen Jenkins is taking advantage of the chance to rediscover favorite sources of inspiration: ‘I’ve really been focusing on reconnecting. For example, with the flower district here. I love perusing all the galleries of gorgeous, exotic flowers, [admiring] their unusual color schemes and combinations. Often I’ll say, well, if nature could put this particular colour scheme together with this flower, or on this bird’s feathers, why couldn’t that work in a home, right? And so a lot of my colour schemes may seem unusual or different, but really they’re inspired by nature.’

A pandemic could have caused real problems for Corey, whose career is on a steep upward trajectory, but he seems to have taken it all in his stride. In the last year he’s published his first book, Design Remix: A New Spin on Traditional Rooms (Rizzoli), launched a video series, Corey Damen Jenkins Teaches Interior Design on masterclass.com and has moved his office permanently to New York where he’s focusing on building a new team and adding to his loyal client – and fan – base.
