An old factory space transformed into a sophisticated yet simple loft using recycled materials is testament to the talent of Italian creatives and siblings Luca and Marco Baldin of q-bic

- Leonardo Mariani

Bare Maximum

The top floor of an 18th century building in Florence was once the location of Digerini e Marinai, a sweet factory. It is now a loft furnished with pallets – a large 1,829 sq ft rectangle provided with all the features of a real house. Situated on the ground floor of the same structure is the studio q-bic, founded in 2002 by two brothers Luca and Marco Baldin, an architect and a designer respectively. The idea of using the raw wooden grid concept was “the logical solution to the fact the client provided us with a low budget – though perfectly in tune with our idea of using recycled materials and giving them a new life,” they elaborate.
