A Tired, Post-war Brisbane Home Has Been Transformed Into a Tranquil Haven by Its Design-savvy Owners
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY
An understated palette of white, with the occasional dip of blue, has helped create a polished boho aesthetic in Chris (pictured) and Nathan’s Brisbane abode. As they embarked on their recent renovation, individuality was key when selecting furniture. A reclaimed timber console from Indigo Love Collectors is the perfect foundation for displaying decorative pieces in the living room (opposite), and an MRD crochet wall-hanging adds textural interest. To make the most of the small dining area (above), a round Canvas+Sasson table is paired with high-backed Early Settler chairs.
Chris and her husband, Nathan, knew they had a challenge ahead of them when they bought their “little gem” nine years ago. Nestled in a leafy Brisbane suburb, the two things the house had going for it were the large block on which it sat and the elevated city views. Everything else was less than ideal. “All the rooms were wallpapered in different colours and patterns; the floor plan was poky and the kitchen was so dated it had a booth,” says Chris. Yet the pair saw potential and, with a keen eye for design, Chris, owner of homewares boutiques The White Bungalow and White Haven, and Nathan, a carpenter, had the skills to turn it into something special.

Deck the DOORS
The front door is our favourite place to make a festive first impression, and it doesn't have to involve a traditional wreath. From fragrant foliage and whimsical florals to ribbons, bells and pine cones, there are countless ways to deck your doorway in seasonal style. It might even be the perfect time to adorn your door with a fresh coat of paint. Here, we've matched Wattyl's most beautiful hues with decorative touches to ring in the holidays in style – and keep the cheer shining long after the season ends.
