Some of you may have read or heard about a recent off runway excursion by an American Regional Jet at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.
The inclement weather which was apparent on the day didn’t help neither did the wind component. In fact the cross-wind would have made me sit up and pay attention in a Boeing 747. However I was not there on the day nor in the cockpit so cannot make a judgement on what my fellow aviators did or didn’t do.
Having operated into and out of O’Hare, I have found the air traffic control to be exceptional, in fact not many other airports I’ve been to have the same 3D picture in their heads. For instance, the standard departure is one SID on one chart, simply fly runway heading and contact ATC for a vector – easy! Compare this with say Frankfurt in Germany where you have a table of contents for the array of SID they can give.

The Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity, is a technology demonstration model to test powered, controlled flight on another world for the first time. It hitched a ride to Mars on the Perseverance rover. Once the rover reached a suitable "airfield" location, it released Ingenuity to the surface so it could perform a series of test flights over a 30-Martian-day experimental window.

Dutch Squadron Finalises F-16 Operations
