When Ritesh Agarwal walked into a meeting with venture investor Bejul Somaia, his haversack attracted immediate attention. Inquisitive as to what the young executive was carting around, Somaia asked him about it and was bewildered to hear the idea, this young brain had. Agarwal, who was a teenager when he left home in Odisha to seek his fortune, carrying all his possessions.
Some four years after he came to Delhi, Agarwal, who once in his hometown, sold SIM cards, has built one of the most valuable and profitable Internet startups in India by a college dropout. The hands-on approach is a big reason why Agarwal has been able to tremendously ramp up OYO Rooms from five cities in December 2014 to 73 cities now.
