Brilliant but moody DS Endeavour Morse has never been the cheeriest of crime-solvers, but as the eighth series of Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour begins, the detective is more troubled than ever.

The three-part drama, set in 1971, finds Endeavour still reeling from the death of his lover Violetta, after her husband’s crimes were exposed in the last series. As he increasingly turns to the bottle to numb his pain, his boss DCI Fred Thursday (Roger Allam) is worried.
