As scheming swordsman, Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau experienced all manner of misfortune - from losing his hand to eventually dying with his sister Cersei in the rubble of King's Landing.

Now, the actor is back on our screens in another grueling role as he plays real-life Danish explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen in the Netflix film Against the Ice.

Set in 1909 Greenland, it tells the true story of Mikkelsen's expedition to prove that Greenland is one single piece of land, therefore disproving the United States' claim to the northeast of the country. To find the evidence he needs, Mikkelsen sled across the ice accompanied by inexperienced crew member Iver Iversen, played by Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole.
