What’s already been a challenging year for Theresa May is about to get even worse as the Prime Minister – played by Holby City actress Gillian Bevan – joins the action in Channel 4’s irreverent royal romp The Windsors, which returns for a second series this week.

‘Brexit has forced Theresa May into the series,’ explains a grey-wigged Bevan during a break in filming. ‘She has to do trade deals, and she’s decided that the Chinese like “strength and pageantry”, so she’s rolling out the royals for them.’

As the PM makes her presence felt, there’s a Dynasty-style stand-off with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (Haydn Gwynne).
