Super 30 Is A Rs 100 Crore Blockbuster. But Not The Comeback Hrithik Roshan Deserved
GLOBAL MOVIE MAGAZINE
|August 2019
Super 30 crossed the Rs 100 crore-mark in ten days of its release. Though the film is seeing box office success, things don’t add up when it comes to Hrithik Roshan’s portrayal of Anand Kumar. We dissect the reasons.
-

It has been 19 years since Hrithik stepped into the Hindi film industry with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000). The actor played two roles in the blockbuster, that of a down-to-earth orphan Rohit Mehra and an extremely outgoing Raj Chopra.
Since his debut, Hrithik’s careergraph kept soaring, all thanks to a string of films where he held the limelight by flexing his muscles, punching the bad guys and showing off killer dance moves. Dhoom 2 title track, anyone?
In Koi Mil Gaya, Hrithik played the role of a specially-abled kid. And interestingly, this time too, his character was called Rohit Mehra, who gets his time to beat up the bad guys thanks to Jadoo’s superpowers.
And then of course, we had the Krrish series, where Hrithik played a superhero who was out there - no Jadoo, no shy Rohit.
In his 19-year career, Hrithik’s biggest solo hits have been his action movies in the Krrish series.
With an array of action films in his record, Bollywood’s Greek God emerged a larger-thanlife figure, an image that he tried hard to break away from in Super 30. But it is difficult to break a pattern, especially if you have used all your muscle on screen to build it for 19 years.
