It’s impossible not to be intrigued by Dreamcatcher. The seven-strong girl group occupies a unique spot in the dominating music and entertainment landscape in Seoul, South Korea. While K-Pop is hardly homogeneous in nature – the sonic spectrum is so diverse in genres now – it is a truth universally accepted that the standards governing both audio and visual output from the industry are exceedingly high. Perfection is vaunted. Production is tight. Choreography, intricately synchronised. The artistes? Beautiful, highly trained, multi-talented and impeccably styled. In Jiu, Sua, Siyeon, Dami, Handong, Gahyeon and Yoohyeon, Dreamcatcher has all these qualities in abundance, but it’s also safe to say that its look and sound are entirely distinct.
