Just two years old in the movie business and Kriti Sanon already has four successes and a stunning Mumbai apartment to show for it. Beginner’s luck? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet

Just Getting Started

For Kriti Sanon, it’s all been a bit dreamlike. The 27-year-old actor from Delhi went from relative obscurity to stardom with just four mainstream Hindi and Telugu films— 1 - Nenokkadine, Heropanti, Dohchay and Dilwale—in less than 24 months. She has already worked with successful actors and filmmakers like Shah Rukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Rohit Shetty and Mahesh Babu. “I’m a dreamer and someone who always wants to excel in whatever I do. I go with the flow. In fact, I screw it up when I plan things,” she says. She’s speaking to us from Mauritius where she is shooting (and perfecting her horse riding skills) for the last schedule of Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta, opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. In this freewheeling chat, we get to know the young star better when she fills in the blanks on her life—secret talents, embarassing habits, song obsession and all.

BIG BREAK

Both my films, 1 - Nenokkadine and Heropanti, released in the same year. I shot the films simultaneously but the experiences were very different. Even though I didn’t know Telugu, I shot with an experienced co-star like Mahesh Babu, whereas the Heropanti unit had newcomers, like Tiger (Shroff).

I’m simple, strong-headed and a typical Delhi girl. People say I ooze ‘Delhiness’—I love to hear that.

"UGH, I HATE HOW I LOOK!"

If the title to this feature is a sentence that goes off in your head every time you stand in front of the mirror, you need to keep reading. No, this is not your run-of-the-mill self-love spiel that will magically change your self-image by the end. It won't. And it definitely won't silence the voices that have told you to fix, hide, and erase parts of you deemed “too much” or “not enough”. What it will do is offer something rare: a reason, however small, to stop waging war with your reflection, and feel a little better about coming home to the person who's been there all along. You.
