She may be just one film old, but seems to have already made her space in the Hindi film industry. Not only does she have a refreshing charm about her, but also some serious acting chops.

Nikita Sawant chats with Pooja Hegde, one of Bollywood’s brightest young stars.

Coming Uproses

As I wait for the interview to begin, I notice our cover girl Pooja Hegde toying with her necklace as the makeup artiste fusses over her. Though it looks familiar, I can’t figure out what exactly the pendant is until the stylist asks her, “Harry Potter fan, are you?” I realise it’s the time turner necklace. This Harry Potter enthusiast is chilled-out and friendly, and talking to her is a breeze. She loves sunglasses, Karan Johar movies and doesn’t like wearing heels. She’s like most girls, and yet there’s something that sets her apart. Hegde’s debut Hindi film Mohenjo Daro didn’t quite cut it, but that’s not to say that she went unnoticed. She has also made a name for herself in the Telugu film industry and has a few projects lined up this year. Over to the talented actor who talks about her journey so far, her family, and how she deals with setbacks.

You started your acting career with Tamil and Telugu cinema. How different is it from the Hindi film industry? I’ve always maintained that films are films. The language may be different, but the way they shoot is the same. Of course, there are differences in nuances; for instance, a Telugu film heroine may emote differently than a Hindi actor. There are certain sensibilities in making a film that are different, but beyond that it’s the same.

You were cast opposite Hrithik Roshan in your debut Bollywood film, Mohenjo Daro. What was the experience like?
