2017: A Space Odyssey

PROJECT 1:

LESS>MORE

It’s clear that maximising space is priority number one for young couples. Our first project features the home of a couple (who wish to remain anonymous) who chose to turn their five-bedroom apartment into a sprawling three-bedroom. The 3,500 sq ft space, which overlooks a water body in Powai, Mumbai, is home to the couple and their three-year-old daughter.

Their dream home was designed by architects Kayzad Shroff and Maria Leon, of the Mumbai-based firm SHROFFLeon. Shroff says, “Our brief was simple—to turn five bedrooms into two. In addition to the conversion of an open terrace into a den, we also had to create an intimate family space that doubled up as an entertainment zone.”

As their clients requested clean lines, SHROFFLeon took an elegant stylistic approach with a muted palette. They used handmade marble tiles, wood-finish wallpaper, blown-glass sculptures, green walls and an artisanal stainless steel screen in the master bath to bring an elegant earthiness to the space.
