With one foot in tradition and one in innovation, how does somerset inspire its workers? Over the coming months vik martin will take a stroll though the alphabet to find out.

I’M STUMBLING down a muddy track through stunning early bluebells and I’m trying to reassure myself. It’s not that I’m lost, it’s just that ‘Hidden Woods’ is, well... hidden. Finally, in the distance, I spot a peaceful domestic scene... but with a twist.
One man is putting the kettle on (a camp fire) and another is doing the washing up. There’s a toaster and a rack of pots and pans nearby. The utensils are filled with brown slime though, and I imagine mud toast and mud pasta as well as the usual pies. It’s like desperate housewives meets Bear Grylls.
