MassOS is one of a handful of an independent distro that's written from scratch, which its developers claim gives it the freedom to take decisions that are in line with its vision. One of its design goals is to be lightweight, and it ships with a curated set of software in line with this objective.

MassOS is an indie distro that puts a lot of emphasis on being lightweight and minimal, which it does thanks to a written-from-scratch design and a curated list of default programs.

The distro also promises to help users stay on the bleeding edge, and touts the example of OpenSSL 3 and FFmpeg 5 libraries in the official stable release. While we appreciate the effort, the examples would probably be lost on the desktop users it’s targeting. We could be wrong about that though since the distro doesn’t explicitly specify the kind of users it’s pitching anywhere.
