Anne Hathaway: Flipping The Script

The Oscar winner gets candid about motherhood, her own childhood and tackling a totally different role in her new flick, Serenity.

When Anne Hathaway was offered the role of sultry Karen Zariakas in her new flick, Serenity, she was in shock. “Normally, I don’t get roles like this,” says the Oscar winner, adding that she’s usually asked to play the grown-up girl next door, rather than the “object of male desire.” She knew she couldn’t pass it up. “I found [it to be] an incredible opportunity to jolt the audience’s expectations,” says Anne, who also transformed her appearance for the role. “It was a big deal!” As she celebrates Serenity’s release, the 36-year-old opens up about making the film, reuniting on screen with Matthew McConaughey and her life as a working mom.
