Sex On The First Date? Yes, Please!

We’ve all heard the rule ‘do not have sex on the first date’. The message was drilled into me from a young age that if you have sex too soon, you won’t see him again.

‘They’ll lose interest and think you’re easy,’ warned a friend when I questioned this mantra. ‘Seriously, don’t do it until the third date.’

For years, I followed the three-date rule as if it was a religion. I never deviated, not even when temptation arose. But things changed when one day the formula failed me.

I’d been happily dating Jeremy for three weeks and we’d enjoyed two amazing dates.

Every day, Jeremy and I spoke for hours and he seemed the perfect gent. For our third date he booked us a fancy restaurant near his house.

High expectations

‘Tonight is the night,’ my friend squealed as she helped me pick out the perfect underwear. ‘You guys are definitely going to do it tonight, I just know it.’

She wasn’t wrong — but I wish she had been. That night, I was so nervous I could barely eat. Jeremy seemed distracted, too. He kept repeating himself as he pushed pork chops around his plate. Even copious amounts of chardonnay wasn’t helping.

Back at his flat, he put on some Michael Bublé and dimmed the lights to try and get us into the mood. But rather than feeling romantic, it felt contrived and unnatural.
