A yoga teacher and dancer, Mumbai-based Deepika Mehta travels the world imparting lessons to students while pursuing an inner evolutionary quest. A debilitating rock-climbing accident proved to be a turning point. Using her own volition to get back on her feet, it was the path of yoga that supported her rehabilitation to a fully normal – in fact a far more enhanced existence today. From being able to lock her body into the most intricate yogic asanas, to surpassing mental hurdles, she tells HELLO! how her life as a yogini is about going beyond the challenges of human experience and living each moment to its consummate potential.

What is it that you experience when you come to the yoga mat every morning?

“As I come to the yoga mat every morning, the one thing I experience after my practice is a stillness of mind and clarity of thought. No matter what my state of mind is before practice, every time I finish, I feel the same sense of peace.”

What was the beginning of your yoga journey?

“I started yoga or rather yoga found me after an intense rock climbing accident which had rendered me immobile for a year. I was told I might just about be able to walk. In my search for hope, I found yoga.”

How did you inculcate discipline within you to pursue yoga with commitment?
