8 DAYS: On your new show, Sent, premiering next Sunday on HBO, you’re both the director and producer. What was it like to work behind the camera for a change?
ALARIC TAY: For four years, I’ve been dreaming of producing a show with HBO Asia and Sent is proof that dreams do come true. I feel very honoured and privileged that my TV directorial debut is with such a big and well-known brand. Well, stamina is crucial when directing a TV series. We filmed on average 10-12 hours a day for a whole month, and we spent the first half of this year working on post-production. It can be quite challenging trying to achieve some work-life balance with the long hours (laughs).
On Sent, a meek office worker, played by local comedian Haresh Tilani, copes with work stress by drafting searing e-mails to anyone who pissed him off. But trouble happens when the drafts are accidentally sent out to the intended recipients. Has something similar happened to you in real life before?
