PEEK INTO A PANACEA FOR HOSPITALS
UNIQUE TIMES
|November - December 2020
Like any other business, hospitals are also a conglomeration of processes with all the ailments that the processes have. The health report card of any clinic will have to focus on the various symptoms that the hospital exhibits and then take a call on what is the disease profile and then prescribe the various age old panacea from the other industries like optimal queuing models, inventory policies like Just In Time (JIT), Six Sigma, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), demand forecasting models etc.
Rajesh Nair Associate Partner, Ernst & Young LLP
The world has changed. And now, suddenly, all the attention is on the health-care systems in the world. COVID-19, pandemic, immunity are the new words in our lexicon.
Amidst all these changes – one of the functions that has the dark and claustrophobic interiors, a flickering neon light in the background, the lingering smell of medicines and an eerie scream from the yonder…
Sounds like a memory of some nightmare the last time you fell sick? Well, then you are in company. It is said that around 95% of us are scared at the thought of hospitals and dread the day we land up in one. Children mouth hospitals in the same breath as police station and cemetery. The association with death and pain cannot but be justified. The white-cloaked ephemeral is more like an ‘undertaker’ than anything else. The fear of these ‘halls of maim’ is more from the ignorance of what happens inside the large concrete walls. How does the clinics operate, how does the doctors know so much about what is right, what if they are wrong, what if someone down the line makes a mistake, and a plethora of questions.
