Charu Sarawgi thrives on challenges. From pursuing a course on textile designing to forgoing her career as a banker to becoming a jewellery designer, her life has been nothing short of a roller-coaster of adventure. In conversation with MARWAR, the talented jewellery designer takes us through her intriguing journey.

Charu Sarawgi started her brand ‘Charu Sarawgi’ in Jaipur, Rajasthan, in December 2014, after having worked in the field of jewellery designing from 2001. Since then, her extraordinary creations have been enriching the jewellery sector with aesthetic, wearable and handcrafted jewellery. Her father Chandra Kumar Sarawgi’s family was from Fatehpur Shekhawati. Her maternal grandfather, Tarachand Barjatya, who was the founder of ‘Rajshri Productions Pvt Ltd’, named the company after Charu’s mother Rajshri Sarawgi. He was from Kuchaman in Rajasthan. Sarawgi grew up in Jaipur under the influence of creative parents and went on to study at the Maharani Gayatri Devi School. When asked about her childhood memories amidst this flourishing and inspiring environment, she says that her childhood was spent doing a lot of art and craft and learning Kathak and Rajasthani folk dances.

The art and architecture of the palaces and havelis of Rajasthan have always inspired Sarawgi. Therefore today she designs and manufactures jadau, polki and enamel jewellery, which are traditional crafts of Rajasthan.
