Vertical Transportation Systems - Safer, Smarter And Sustainable

Safety and energy efficiency have taken centre stage, and there is a growing demand for smart systems with high speed and capacity that can carry passengers comfortably in high-rises and other large-scale facilities.

Rakhi Phophalia, architect at Geo Designs/Cherry Hill Interiors Delhi, discusses important factors that affect the selection of a vertical transport system. “We assess the utility, building occupancy, building height, waiting time and speed, size, maximum travel distance, safety considerations and regulation compliance, traffic direction and aesthetics at large," she says, adding that the kind available now include scenic/ glass, machine room-less (MRL), air-conditioned, AI-integrated and high-speed elevators.

Otis India’s Gen2 Life elevator for upscale residential and commercial buildings has passenger capacities of between eight to 15 passengers, speeds of 1.5-1.75mps and variations of machine-room or MRL configurations. Its robust design allows users to opt for a rear glass door and accommodate aesthetics. In addition, its special features — flat-belt technology, space-saving built, a compact gearless machine and energy-efficient operation — makes it a gamechanger in the industry.
