In last months edition, we started talking about the 2 X National Drift Champion, Jason Webb’s new Ford Mustang Convertible that will be competing in the Super Drift Series here in South Africa. On the 24th May, people came together from all around SA for the launch of the Roush 5.0 Mustang aka “The Monstang”. This was held at the Ford Performance Centre, based in Centurion.
Jason and his team have been working on this car day and night for months to transform it from a luxury street beast into a stripped down Roush Level 3 V8 Supercharged 727HP tyre-slashing track weapon. This has been a joint venture between Ford South Africa, Roush South Africa, Ford Performance Centre, Monster Energy, Smoke’m Garage, Racing Hart Wheels and SA Hotrods Magazine. This is the first time in South Africa that a manufacturer is supplying a car for the Drifting Series and a huge achievement for Motor Racing and the Drifting scene in this country.
All the mechanical work was done by Speedy Webb (Jason’s dad) and seeing as they only had six months to totally rebuild the 2016 Mustang into a drift ready race car, this was quite an achievement to say the least!
