TRAVEL MANAGEMENT PLANNING: We have the Upper Hand

The plan to close thousands of miles of roads is just one part of an incremental strategy to devour rural America. It’s a never-ending battle between pro-access user groups and environmentalists who want more regulation. The good thing is there are some significant differences when it comes to those who fight for motorized access, and those who want to close roads over the public domain. While environmentalists lobby politicians, create federal regulation, and control positions of bureaucratic power, we should focus on the laws that grant us the right to explore the public domain.

Several historical laws exist intended to aid the settlement of western America. These laws still have standing today, and some are strengthened by over 200 years of Supreme Court case law. These laws are not new and have existed since the founding of our country. They cede us the right to explore, enjoy, and use the resources of the public domain. However, current federal regulation has buried them in history. The good news is, these regulations are temporary.
