The essence of Kataragama is tightly woven with Lord Murugan—God of War, Love and Beauty and the Kataragama Devalaya is a place of divine presence.
The Lunugamvehera National Park falls within the confines of Moneragala and Hambantota districts. As a major catchment area for Lunugamvehera, Veheragala and other reservoirs, its land is fertile and home to a diversity of wildlife.
Once relegated to the backwaters of this country, forgotten and forlorn and left to eke out its existence, the one tractor town of Moneragala has today become the District’s bowl of agriculture, the hub of commerce, the basin of gems and the urn of historic ruins.
In Sri Lanka, the lovable little House Sparrow is the harbinger of good tidings and bad. These sprightly little birds, which hop up determinedly to the front door, cock their heads and look you in the eye while checking out the floor for crumbs, are a common sight.
Sailing around Sri Lanka in a non-motorised sailboat— a dream that Jeremy Bolling harboured for a decade is today an accomplishment worthy of the record books. More so are the experiences, exhilaration and fond memories that stirred him deeply.
