In the July-August issue of Logistics Update Africa, the cover story by Surya Kannoth takes a hard look at the cold facts about Africa’s export of perishables and how underdeveloped transport and logistics infrastructure causes significant damage to export volume and value. The story identifies new partnership with stakeholders and technology as key drives of change. The special report by Shalini Nair provides an update on the Australian government’s new import regulations on flowers from Kenya and other African countries. This is one among the many old and new challenges African flower exporters deal with and the solution lies in building partnership between industry and government to set up fumigation facilities and other infrastructure within export countries to address global regulatory requirements. In this issue we bring our focus on Qatar Airways Cargo which has been doing phenomenally well and inching closer to become the world’s top cargo carrier. The story also looks at the way the crucial role the cargo division of Qatar Airways played in Qatar’s journey from dependency to self-sufficiency in the on-going economic and diplomatic embargo.
