The Maruti-Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) part-nership is finally beginning to reap huge rewards for both the companies and will dominate the Indian automotive landscape for years to come. Till last month it was just TKM selling Maruti’s products and putting its network to better use and generating some extra revenues for the huge in-vestments its dealers had made. With the launch of the Hyryder/Grand Vitara SUV it is now also putting its nearly idle 2nd plant, with a capacity of over 2 lakh per annum, to good use. For Maruti-Suzuki, the hybrid powertrain comes as a bonus and the manufacturing of the Grand Vitara frees up capacity for the upcoming shift of manufacturing out of Gurgaon.
