A big welcome to our new-look P&Q and an even bigger welcome to Popular Patchwork readers who may be joining us for the first time following our merger. It was a sad day when it was announced that Pop Patch was going to merge with P&Q as we have been good rivals for more years than I can remember and we were the first quilting magazines in the UK I think? Onwards and upwards is what they say and merging the magazines puts us in a very strong place in the marketplace. As part of the merger, we have recruited Stuart Hillard for his monthly Stuart’s Surgery column and a new mystery quilt which will be starting in the next issue. We have also acquired quite a few of Pop Patch’s commissioned projects and will be filtering these in over the next six months.
This has been such a packed issue to put together with a lot of juggling of articles on my part. We have the lovely Diagonal Hexie Quilt and the Vintage Star Quilt, both via Pop Patch. The Pineapple Pool Tote bag is so roomy you can fit everything you need for a day by the pool, or beach. Raid your stash to make the Butterfly Quilt or how about making Think Outside the Box for your sewing room?
Helen reviews Quilts UK where the standard of quilts was really good this year and we also take a look at Transitions, the recent exhibition by Thistle Quilters in Edinburgh. Helen also found time to visit Unfolding Stories III, Contemporary Quilters West exhibition. We also see WIP and UFO quilts from history in the Quilters’ Guild mini exhibition, Unfinished Treasures. Hilda Wessels tells us about her First and Last quilts and we meet Lingen Stitchers in Introducing.
