Ward off fall viruses
Woman's World
|November 04, 2024
Heading out on hayrides, going leaf-peeping, preparing for trick-or-treaters—there's so much we love about fall. But dips in temperature and humidity this time of year can cause respiratory viruses such as colds, flu and COVID to spread more easily, a report in the journal The Science of the Total Environment suggests. Fortunately, these strategies increase your immune system's antiviral armor so you can enjoy the season to the fullest
Dip apples in peanut butter
Just 2 Tbs. of the tasty treat delivers 49 mg of magnesium. That's key since the mineral is crucial for optimal function of virus-fighting T cells and natural killer cells, say experts at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. And in a Frontiers in Nutrition study, people whose diets were high in magnesium were 68% less likely to suffer from COVID complications than their low-magnesium counterparts. Other foods that pack a payload of magnesium: peanuts, almonds, cashews, potatoes and pumpkin seeds.

The Mary Tyler Moore SHOW
From That Girl in the 1960s to Ally McBeal in the 1990s to Sex and the City in the 2000s, television has long reflected the shifting image of independent women. Yet the true game-changer came in 1970, when The Mary Tyler Moore Show introduced Mary Richards—30, single, stylish and making her way in a newsroom full of men. Rather than being someone’s wife or daughter, she was the star, and she changed television forever. Join us for a look back at rare behind-the-scenes photos of the groundbreaking show as we celebrate its 55th anniversary.

Happy money, happy holidays
The holidays are here (yay!), and with them comes both joy and, let's be honest, stress. For many of us, the shopping lists, entertaining costs or the ache of an empty chair at the table can dim the sparkle of the season. If that's you, please accept my wishes that the days land lightly.
