Sheriff Parker pulled onto the dirt road that was the only access to the spit of land that was home to five houses. Detective Hommes of the city police force homicide department sat next to him.
A front-end loader was clearing away the remaining sand, which had drifted onto the road during the nighttime windstorm.
Finally, they made it to the communal gravel parking lot that served the five oceanfront homes. Claire Adley, Felix Montaine’s girlfriend and next-door neighbor, was waiting in the kitchen of the house.
“When he didn’t respond to my knocking this morning, I let myself in,” she said. “And I found Felix down in his wine cellar, tied up and... murdered!”
“A well-stocked wine cellar?” Hommes asked.
“Yes. From the cheapest brands to the oldest, most expensive wines. Felix had—”
“A heart condition.”
“Yes. How did...”
Hommes gestured to the nearby counter. “I recognize the blood thinner and beta blocker brand names on these prescription pill bottles.”

The Mary Tyler Moore SHOW
From That Girl in the 1960s to Ally McBeal in the 1990s to Sex and the City in the 2000s, television has long reflected the shifting image of independent women. Yet the true game-changer came in 1970, when The Mary Tyler Moore Show introduced Mary Richards—30, single, stylish and making her way in a newsroom full of men. Rather than being someone’s wife or daughter, she was the star, and she changed television forever. Join us for a look back at rare behind-the-scenes photos of the groundbreaking show as we celebrate its 55th anniversary.

Happy money, happy holidays
The holidays are here (yay!), and with them comes both joy and, let's be honest, stress. For many of us, the shopping lists, entertaining costs or the ache of an empty chair at the table can dim the sparkle of the season. If that's you, please accept my wishes that the days land lightly.
