West End star Michael Ball tells us why his busy work schedule is just what he needs
-
As he prepares to return to London’s West End in the celebrated Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Aspects of Love, Michael Ball is well aware that his publishers are waiting for him to finish the manuscript for his second novel.
In addition, he has a weekly Radio 2 show, he’s working on a new album for release next spring, to be followed by a solo tour, and then he’s likely to hit the road again with his long-time singing partner Alfie Boe.
Such a punishing schedule would be enough to tip most people over the edge and have their partners complaining that they’re never at home, but Michael reveals that his partner Cathy is actually very grateful that he’s so busy.
‘I’m always complaining how tired I am and how hard I work, but if I wasn’t, I don’t think anyone would know what to do with me. Cath would be inventing things for me to have to do because I’m not the best company when I’ve got nothing on!’ Michael admits with a chuckle.
‘It’s good for me to be on the go, both mentally and physically. I’m a great one for having a routine and a deadline. I know I’ve got to walk the dog, so I will be going out in the afternoon at 3pm. Then I know what time I have to be at the theatre, what time I’m due on stage and what time I’ll finish.’
