Georgie lived to dance – and now her dream job was within her grasp
-
As she scanned the email for the fourth time, Georgie's heart began to pound. It contained just two sentences. They were brief and to the point. But had she got it right? Had she mistaken Unfortunately on this occasion for We would like to invite you?
No! She had read it correctly – and a swell of sheer joy rose in her chest. This was a life-changing opportunity. It represented everything she had worked so hard for since she was a little girl.
Just then, her mother Sara bustled into the kitchen and hauled two carrier bags full of shopping on to the table.
'Still in your dressing gown?' she said, rolling her eyes as she started to unpack. 'It's 11am, love...' Then she stopped, holding a jar of marmalade in mid-air, and frowned. 'What's up? You look like you've seen a ghost.'
Slowly, Georgie turned her laptop around and nodded at the screen.
Bending down, Sara squinted. 'Let's have a look...' Then her jaw dropped and her eyes grew wide. 'Seriously, love?' she managed.
'Seriously!' Georgie laughed, leaping to her feet and pulling her mother into a hug.
'You'll walk it!' Sara hooted as the pair jigged up and down around the kitchen.
Fifteen minutes later, after Sara had phoned her husband Pete at work to tell him the good news, the two women settled down with a cup of tea.
'I'm so thrilled for you, pet,' Sara said. 'Me and your dad will come and see you when you get the job.'
'Let's not get carried away, Mum,' Georgie beamed. 'Remember I haven't even been to the audition yet.'
Then her smile faded. 'And then there's...' Her words trailed off.
'Harry,' her mother finished the sentence.
Georgie nodded. 'Yes,' she said quietly. 'If I get the job, he's not going to like it one little bit.'
Sara reached out and patted her hand. 'He's a good lad. He'll understand how important this is to you. He'll come around to the idea.'
