Whispers of Chitkul

There's a unique magic in embarking on a journey with your best friend—a shared adventure that becomes a tapestry of laughter, discovery, and unforgettable memories. It was a warm May morning when my bestie Riya and I finally packed our bags for what would turn out to be one of the most memorable trips of our lives.

We had been planning this escape for months—dreaming about escaping the hustle of city life and finding ourselves amidst the serenity of the Himalayas. Our destination? Riya and I set out to explore the quaint village of Chitkul in Himachal Pradesh, often referred to as “India’s Switzerland” due to its breathtaking natural beauty. Nestled along the Baspa River at an altitude exceeding 11,000 feet, Chitkul is the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. Its untouched landscapes, traditional wooden houses, and tranquil atmosphere promised the serene escape we yearned for.

imageLittle did we know, this trip would be more than just a getaway; it would be a journey of self-discovery, friendship, and awe-inspiring beauty.

The Drive To Chitkul

Our adventure started early in the morning from Delhi. With the windows rolled down and our favorite playlist humming softly in the background, we hit the winding roads leading north. The drive to Chitkul is a scenic one, filled with lush green valleys, snow-capped peaks, and charming small towns. We made a few stops at quaint roadside dhabas to sip tea, munch on steaming momos, and soak in the mountain air.
