I have been living in Goa for exactly 30 years now and have had my own fair share of D'Costas as neighbours. But Rochelle's The D'Costa Family is a slice of bitter lemon, a slice you suck on to quell the nausea down, even as you careen through the hairpin bends, the roller-coaster rides, the potholes and the pinholes and still come out of it like a bouquet of fragrant monsoon roses.

And, one reads the book, The D'Costa Family, all the gems, jewels, land, and bricks- belong to men. "That's rich, coming from the matriarch who came from the Joseph family and whose women, wealth and lands were usurped by the D'Costas in the first place! If there's anything that Rochelle is not, it is predictable.
