Northern Costa Rica

Better for those who don't want to lie on a beach, Northern Costa Rica is a part of a proudly green country where rainforests thrive, rivers flow, and seeing incredible wildlife like monkeys, sloths, and toucans is common. My favorite activity there was white water-tubing down Río Celeste, a trip that gave me two of the merriest hours I've ever had.

Bern, Switzerland

The Bernese lifestyle is nothing short of enviable; in fact, Switzerland ranks among the world's top places for quality of life. Its capital city, Bern, is a medieval gem near soaring mountains and the famous Lauterbrunnen Valley.

The Aare River runs through the city, and one of the most popular local activities is to get right in! You'll see folks swapping suits and ties for swim gear, throwing their possessions in a dry bag, and commuting home after work via the swift waters. Watching made me feel as if I were 15 again!
