Buddies Hamish and Brickman talk weddings, workouts and Star Wars
Hamish Blake is best known as half of the comedy duo Hamish and Andy with fellow funnyman Andy Lee, but for the past seven years, his onscreen partner has been Ryan “Brickman” McNaught on Lego Masters Australia.
When Woman’s Day visits the set of the show’s new series, Grand Masters Of The Galaxy – which sees teams from around the world, including a couple of Kiwi mums, battling it out for block-building supremacy – we sit down with Hamish, 43, and Brickman, 52, as they munch on rice cakes topped with sliced banana, maple syrup and cinnamon...
What are the overseas versions of you two like?
BRICKMAN: I'm much skinnier.
HAMISH: Cheap imitations, I'd say. The contestants have never said it exactly, but you get the impression that they feel their home country's hosts are very much the Temu version of Hamish and Brickman. Actually, in America, it's [Arrested Development actor] Will Arnett and you can't beat Will.
'Their home country's hosts are the Temu version of us!'
Have there been contestants from non-English-speaking countries who can't understand you?
HAMISH: Yeah. I realise that 95% of what I say is colloquialism or slang – I especially feel for our Chinese team.
BRICKMAN: I'm all about anecdotes. I use all these anecdotes that mean nothing to them whatsoever.
