A new interview has left the once-close pair at loggerheads

When the Prince of Wales arrived at Windsor Castle on an electric scooter for his interview with actor Eugene Levy for his show The Reluctant Traveler, it was clear William was on a mission to prove he was a different kind of royal to his father, the King.

But the candid chat did more than that - it's also deeply wounded Charles, 76, who's said to be distressed at what he perceives to be a series of slights that his son, 43, made.

Amid growing reports of tension between the royal pair, insiders say Charles and William's relationship has "descended into silence".

The King's upset about his eldest son's remarks about his childhood, his parents' divorce and the need to change the monarchy, while William reportedly feels betrayed that Charles took reconciliatory meetings with his estranged brother Prince Harry, 41, without consulting him.

In the moving interview with Schitt's Creek star Eugene, 78, William says he's committed to giving his own kids - Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven - the calm and constant family life he didn't have growing up.
