A real life roo rescuer is the inspiration for a new movie filmed in Alice Springs

For someone who admits he prefers animals to people, the idea of introducing huge crowds to his little corner of Australia was daunting. But Chris Barns, known as Brolga, understood how being involved in a movie inspired by his life would be worth it.

Brolga, 52, works as kangaroo rescuer and he shot to fame in 2013 after the BBC filmed a documentary about his Alice Springs reserve. The 188-acre wildlife sanctuary for rescued orphaned infant joeys and adult kangaroos opened in 2011.
