'I'M HAPPY BEING BACK ON THE GROUND!'

His soothing words and traffic chopper got us home safely for two decades

He has one of the most recognisable voices on Aussie TV and radio. But it’s Vic Lorusso’s signature sign-off - “I'm Vic Lorusso from the traffic chopper” - that has become just as memorable in cars and households across the country.

Asked how many times he reckons he’s said those words and Vic laughs.

“Too many times to count,” he says.

This year marks 25 years since the 44-year-old first took to the skies to keep us up to date (and on time) with his energetic and informative live traffic reports on programs such as Network Ten’s 5pm news bulletin and Gold 101.7's Jonesy & Amanda.

“I’ve absolutely loved my job,” Vic tells Woman's Day as he introduces us to his beautiful family at their home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. He admits that being the best traffic reporter in the business - our words not his - has had its perks over the years, even helping him find his way to his wife, Katie, 43.
