As temperatures cool, it's time to reach into the furthermost parts of your wardrobe to unpack those blankets and winter woollens. While you're at it, now could also be the perfect time to get stuck into those tidying chores you've been avoiding.

Interior designer and organisation expert Jordana Thirlwall says autumn cleaning is something that we can all start to embrace.

"Waiting for 'spring cleaning' often leads to excessive clutter piling up, making it overwhelming to tackle when the season finally arrives," she says. "By decluttering regularly, you're always ahead of the game, creating an organised space all year."

BURIED BY CLUTTER

Clutter can bring up a lot of emotions, and up to 40 per cent of Aussies say they feel anxious, guilty or depressed about the state of their home. If you're struggling with overwhelm, know that many others are in the same boat.

Almost 90 per cent of people have at least one cluttered room, and the average home has at least three. In other words, clutter isn't something you should feel ashamed of and most of us struggle with it to some degree.

One way to get motivated, is to think about how much better you'll feel once all those tidying jobs are done.
