DENHAM HITCHCOCK 'BOAT LIFE IS THE DREAM LIFE!'

For the journalist and his family, sailing the seas beats the city grind any day

Taking a work sabbatical and sailing around the breathtaking islands of Fiji for two years sounds like a pipe dream for most, but seasoned journalist Denham Hitchcock made it happen with his wife Mari and their little girl, Kaia. They loved the adventure so much, they've continued living on their boat since arriving back at Sydney's Mosman - this time with their six-month-old son Hendrix joining the crew.

"We love living on the water, the open space and being right in amongst nature," Denham tells Woman's Day. "We're a very waterborne family - my wife surfs, I surf, wing foil, spearfish, all that kind of stuff."

Their time sailing around Fiji was "surprisingly cheap" for a two-year holiday, but Denham explains that when you've got your own solar panels, desalinate your own water from the ocean, do your boat's maintenance work and fish from the sea, all you're really paying for is fresh produce.

"No rent, no mortgage," Denham, 48, says. "If you go on a holiday to an expensive resort in Fiji and stay there for two years, you'd need to be a millionaire."
