Struggling from brain overwhelm? Here's how to go from clutter to clarity

Most of us know what it's like to be overwhelmed by a difficult task or to feel drained at the end of a busy day. Just like our homes, our brains can get cluttered too and it can be important to take a moment to clear your mind.

According to psychologist Carly Dober from Enriching Lives, brain clutter is a real phenomenon that can affect everything from our mood to our thinking ability.

WHAT IS BRAIN CLUTTER?

“Brain clutter, or cognitive overload, is a very common phenomena where people at work, university and home are bombarded with fast amounts of information and tasks to handle,” she explains. “Although normal, it is also something to try to take action on when you start to notice this occurring.”

We all experience brain clutter from time to time. It could be simply forgetting an important appointment because you're busy moving house, or a crisis that affects your ability to carry out regular tasks.

“It's the moment in which our working memory becomes overwhelmed with too much information leading to a sharp decrease in productivity in performance,” Carly explains.
