The duo are back playing in Australia for three special shows

It’s been 50 years since two young musicians, Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell, formed the band Air Supply.

Neither expected that half a century on the group would still be going strong! The band, one of Australia’s most successful, has sold more than 100 million albums, and continues to tour worldwide.

“It seems like only yesterday that we started,” reflects Russell, 75, the lead vocalist, from his home in LA.

“It’s amazing we've done so much and had so much success.”

He and Graham met in May 1975, when both were performing in hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar. “We got on so well, we decided to form our own band as soon as possible,” Russell tells Woman’s Day.

His distinctive tenor voice lent itself perfectly to Graham’s songs.

“We recorded a demo tape to show record companies but first we had to give our band a name, Russell recalls. “We couldn’t think of anything. Graham said, ‘let’s sleep on it and see what one of us comes up with tomorrow.’”
