Cow's milk has been in our diets for millennia, but in recent times, non-dairy milks have soared in popularity, with 48%* of Brits now using them. But it's not just milk. 'You'll also need to cut out cheese, butter, cream and ice cream,' says dietician Sophie Medlin**. 'Plus, butter, milk and milk powder are sneaking into foods such as bread, ready meals and some crisps.' Here's what to expect when you make the change.

A dairy allergy can lead to a variety of symptoms, from a rash or itchy lips to wheezing and vomiting. But while quitting might mean fewer reactions, consider the alternatives wisely. 'Nut milks, for example, may not be suitable for those with nut allergies,' says nutritionist Lara Hughes***.
