Asian-spiced sausage rolls

MAKES 22 Nothing beats a freshly-baked sausage roll at a family buffet table.

YOU WILL NEED

400g minced pork

3tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)

1tbsp sesame oil

4 spring onions, finely sliced

¼tsp Chinese five-spice

½tsp dried chilli flakes

320g pack puff pastry

1 medium egg, beaten

2tbsp sesame seeds

Sriracha/chilli sauce or tomato ketchup, to serve

Green olives, sweet red pepper drops, herb sprigs, to serve (optional)

HOW TO DO IT

1 In a bowl, mix together the mince, kecap manis, sesame oil, spring onions, five spice and chilli flakes, and season well. Heat the oven to 200C Fan.

2 Roll out the pastry to 25x35cm. Cut lengthwise in half, and spread half the meat down each length as a sausage. Brush the pastry edge with egg, and fold over to encase the filling. Press with a fork to seal, and trim the edge.

3 Brush the pastry with egg and sprinkle over sesame seeds, then cut into 3cm-long rolls. Arrange on a lined baking tray and bake for 30 mins until puffed and golden.

Layered potato salad

SERVES 8-10

Delicious and easy to prepare ahead.

YOU WILL NEED

1kg salad potatoes

1½ red cabbage, shredded

Small bunch parsley, roughly chopped

2 carrots, grated

30g sultanas/dried cranberries

2 red chicory, roughly torn

50g sharp blue cheese, crumbled

Drizzle of honey

60g bag rocket

30g crispy onions

For the carrot dressing:

4tbsp olive oil
